4. 'Watching' Documentary

.) When Thomas Sutcliffe says "films need to secue their audience into long term committment. While there are many types of secution..." he means that the audience should be drawn in, and it should take our innocence long before we get inside

.) The risk of instant arousal is that the audience might be aroused for the first bit of the film and make the audience have high expectations for the rest of the film, but end up being disaapointed for the rest of the film.

.) "A good beginning must make the audience feel that it doesnt know nearly enough yet, and at the same time make sure that it doesnt know too little" because it shouldnt give too much away but at the same time it should draw the audience in and make them feel engaged and intrigued enough to watch the rest.

.) Stanley Kaufmann describes the classic opening as the panning shot that establishes the location. It works because he does close upssets the scene of the film, and that could relate to the main characte. It could help suspend disbelief if it looks very ordinary.

.) Kyle Coopers title sequence to the film 'Seven' is effective because it foreshadows events in the film in a way that gives the audience a sense of what the atmosphere of the film would be like, leaving them intrigued but without giving the plot away.
